ten million

So how much lottery cash would the average Briton share? Well, when it comes to money the British really are into sharing. Almost 60 per cent said they would share half a million pounds or more with good causes. More than a third would share as much as a million pounds and a really caring sharing 13.5 per cent would share up to five million pounds of the winnings.

An amazingly generous 8 people amongst the 1,458 Britons we spoke to would give away every single penny!

Are there any modern British scrooges out there? Well unfortunately the answer is yes; more than 7% said they'd give nothing away while more than one third of Britons would share no more than 1% of winnings. Amongst these scrooges, approaching 10% said they'd only share ten thousand pounds out of a ten million lottery win.

Are women more generous than men? Of course they are - 13% of men said they share nothing compared to just 4% for women.

And which cities come top in the sharing league. Well the clear winner with the most people who'd give away a million or more is Belfast with 59% followed by Glasgow with 53% and London and Brighton with 50%.
